Last weekend, students from Holy Family College (HOFACO) visited the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre (DASAC) for an educational excursion. Over fifty students, accompanied by ten teachers and staff, embarked on this trip to enhance their understanding of the practical aspects of their studies.
Prof. Enoidem B. Usoro, the Rector of DASAC, emphasized the importance of excursions as a valuable learning opportunity. She encouraged the students to remain open-minded, learn actively, and ask questions during their visit. The Registrar, Mr. Aniediabasi Udofia, joined Prof. Usoro in welcoming the students.
Prof. Enoidem explained that DASAC is a comprehensive vocational training hub affiliated with the University of Lagos. The center aims to equip trainees with practical skills to excel as entrepreneurs or stand out to top recruiters. She highlighted some of the courses offered at DASAC, which include:
- Agriculture: Fisheries, poultry, piggery, snail farming, and cattle ranching
- Hospitality and Lifestyle Management: Catering, beadery, fashion design, and leather making
- Metal and Steel Fabrication: Welding, aluminum work, and fabrication
- Wood Technology: Joinery, carpentry, and furniture making
- Information Communication Technology: Website design, programming, internet surveillance and security, and networking
- Entrepreneurship
The students expressed their appreciation for the practical insights gained during the visit. Many shared with the rector their interest in returning to DASAC for further training after completing their secondary education.
